Applications Developers use their knowledge of programming languages to design, test and implement computer software applications. They often work alongside computer analysts, User Experience (UX) Designers and other IT specialists to create customised tools that enhance business operations or user experiences. Every industry, from finance to healthcare, relies on applications to optimise their operations, which is why Applications Developers can be found across a diverse range of settings. Applications Developers could specialise in a particular type of application, such as mobile or database applications.
Tasks and duties
- Designing and developing new applications based on user requirements and system specifications.
- Testing and debugging code to ensure applications run smoothly.
- Collaborating with cross-functional teams to define, design and implement new application features.
- Maintaining and improving the performance of existing software, and updating applications as per changing needs and technology advancements.
- Documenting software designs and code to contribute to the knowledge base and to facilitate maintenance and enhancements.
- Building prototypes, or wireframes for user testing to streamline the development process.
- Staying updated on new technologies and programming languages that could improve the quality or process of application development.
